"The bruises aren’t going yellow or green, they’re just not changing colour, they’re purple and black and they’re not really going anywhere. But I ignored it."💬 Sam was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in 2016. She experienced chesty coughs for months, for which friends advised her to go to the doctor, but Sam chose to ‘ride it out and see how it goes’. As more of the classic leukaemia symptoms started to occur, Sam was convinced her symptoms could be related to other medical conditions. September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and Leukaemia Care launch their Spot Leukaemia campaign, raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of leukaemia within the public and healthcare professionals.

"I should, of course, have arranged to see the doctor straight away, which is why I immediately went to my old friend the internet again."💬 For Anthony, he had many of the classic symptoms of leukaemia: frequent infections, bruising, fatigue and weight loss. However, Anthony, like many of us, settled for googling his symptoms. When he eventually returned to the doctor, Anthony himself suspected by now he had cancer, and his suspicions were confirmed when he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). "I nearly cancelled my GP appointment as I was unaware of the symptoms of leukaemia. I thought my symptoms were normal when they were anything but. Keeping that GP appointment saved my life."💬 Katherine was just 19 and had barely even begun her education at university when she was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL). It was assumed her symptoms were just freshers’ flu, and Katherine even considered cancelling her GP appointment.
